Catholic Campus Ministry was created from a vision to support college students during their journey to adult faith. Its mission is to combat the overwhelming tide of secularism spreading throughout our society. From its humble beginnings in 1976, CCM has grown into a community of faith and fellowship. It is not just a social club for Catholic students; it is a gathering of young people who seek to celebrate the universal truth of God’s unconditional love. As individuals from many different backgrounds, we are all part of the one Body of Christ together. The future of the Catholic Church will be supported and shaped by those young people who are developing their adult faith at JMU today.
CCM offers faith opportunities to learn more about the deeper meaning behind the “rules of religion.” It is our belief that if you provide students the opportunity to understand, they will believe. The next generation of church leaders is learning in our schools today and it is the role of CCM to provide these students with ways to understand. Catholicism 101 classes, retreats, bible studies, and prayer groups are some of the many ways students may nurture their faith in Christ.
The culture of CCM at JMU is greatly influenced by our tight-knit social community. Alumni, current students, and visiting parents have all experienced the welcoming environment at the CCM house. We strive to make our house a place for prayer, sacraments, support, and fun! There are countless ways to become active in the CCM community, from BBQ’s on the back lawn, volunteering at the Blessed Sacrament Soup Kitchen, or one of the many prayer groups tailored to individual’s faith needs. Our community is a CCM for students, by students.
